After our exciting day of caves we made it out to the Smoky Mountains in time to watch the sun set. We went out to Clingman's Dome, the highest point in the Smokies, to watch. There is a cool observation platform at the top of a very steep hill, from there we got great views in every direction. After the sun set we got to do some star gazing and saw some thunder storms roll in. It was fun to watch the lightning in the distance.

Fortunately, we did not get rained on. After some searching for a campsite and a short night we got to enjoy the beauty of the Smokies as we drove along the Blue Ridge Parkway. One of my favorite parts was watching the clouds burn off as the sun came up over the ridges around us. At one point we saw the clouds creeping over the ridge trying to escape the sun. It was pretty cool.
