Nauvoo Trip

The ward put together a trip to Nauvoo. They did it the summer before I moved in and decided that it was time to try again. We chartered a bus and drove out from Atlanta to Nauvoo (12 hours). The bus we were supposed to have, complete with internet and electrical outlets, had mechanical problems, so we got an old but without those fancy perks and with a few problems with the AC and leaks. We got into Nauvoo really late Thursday night.
Most of us went to the temple Friday morning. Then we had lunch and went touring the sites in old Nauvoo.

I got to ride an ox cart which was, in fact, so slow.







We went to the house where Relief Society was organized. Sarah Granger Kimbal who started the whole thing went on to be a major force for women's suffrage after arriving in Utah.

Of course we went to the bakery and print shop and rope making shop. And heard the "Good night, sleep tight, don't let the bed bugs bite." story many many times. We also went to the Browning gun shop and learned about how rifles are made.

The senior missionaries put on a little show in the evening. It was very cheesy and ridiculous but there were some fun performers. It was easy to tell the difference between the couples who were called as performance missionaries and those who were called as visitor center couples.





We went to bed late again and left early to get to Carthage. After Carthage we started a long trek back to Atlanta. The bus broke down close to Nashville and we got stuck in a gas station for about 4 hours, so we got back home very late.
It was a very fast trip with lots of time spent on the bus but it was kind of fun.
