Mischievous Frontier : England: Westminster

Westminster Abbey is shockingly close to Parliament. Maybe it's just the American in me who is used to the National Mall where every thing you want to see is about an hour walk from every other thing, but these are actually right next to each other. The outside is fairly standard gothic with lots of little spikeys and tiny dust gathering statues. Why people like it is because 1 fancy things happen here 2 the inside is pretty cool.

1. Fancy things happen here. True. This is where most royal things happen, weddings, christenings, funerals, coronations. That type of stuff. It usually involves lots of fanciness and lots of pictures.

2. The inside is really cool. This is one church that I think would not be benefited by being there for services because it is kind of just an awesome mausoleum. Most other churches we visited had pictures from Bible stories in the side chapels and other churchy things. I feel like all of Westminster Abbey is stuffed with tombstones and memorials for every famous person to ever live. We saw tons of famous people's stones that I got really excited about. We weren't allowed to take pictures but you can just imagine or look at the well organized registry. We saw Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth. Scientists: Darwin, Newton, Kelvin, Rutherford, Dirac, Halley (like the comet), Writers: More than you could count, C.S. Lewis, Longfellow, Dickens, the Bronte sisters, Chaucer, Lewis Carroll, Milton. Other People: Livingston I presume, Captain Cook. These were all very cool some people had statues, some had plaques, some had windows. Mostly the moral of the story is you have to be super cool now to make it in because there isn't much space left. They also had the tomb of the unknown soldier which was a very nice memorial.

Outside the main church there was the chapter house which I'm still not entirely sure what is, something involving monks. But there were beautiful windows and it was peaceful.
