Blood Mountain

Keeping with the trend started in Boston where we hiked Mount Misery and Purgatory, I went on a hike on Memorial Day to Blood Mountain. We had fun on the way up thinking up stories of how the mountain got its name. Blood Mountain is up by Helen in North Georgia and surprisingly for a mountain in Georgia it actually has some spots where you can get a view without a tree in the way.
It was a beautiful day and nice to be outside. As we got to the top we found that there were whole groves of wild azaleas. I have never really thought of these flowers growing in the wild so it was sort of magical to find whole clumps of them together.
On the way back we stopped at Desoto falls. The falls were beautiful but on the small side. More of a friendly trickle. But don't be deceived by the friendliness of the scene, there was a troll living under the waterfall.

  1. It looks lovely. And, better to encounter that troll under the waterfall than a cottonmouth moccasin!
