Passover dinner

So over the last month there have been a few events of note. Right before Easter I had a Passover dinner with some of my friends. It was my first time leading the passover dinner, my two jewish friends who came were just happy to hot have to be in charge. Thankfully we did it potluck. The proportions of what was brought didn't quite match up. In honor of the occasion I got us a chocolate seder plate which was actually surprisingly delicious. We went through a lot of juice and matzah and mashed potatoes. The other types of food were in rather short supply. The shank bone was a little late arriving so we used a bottle cap as a place holder until it showed up. It might not have been the most Kosher solution but it did make for a colorful seder plate.

I think everyone had a good time. One of the memorable moments was when someone took the challenge to eat all the remaining horseradish. Apparently it was a little more than he was more expecting.

One part of the seder that stood out to me in particular was the reading from Deut 26:5 "A Syrian ready to perish was my father, and he went down into Egypt, and sojourned there with a few, and became there a nation, great, mighty, and populous; and the Egyptians evil entreated us, and afflicted us, and laid upon us hard bondageWhile several other translations render it Aramean it did seem relevant to think about the importance of caring for those refugees who come to us for help. When we look back we want to be on the side of the covenant people not the cruel task masters or the people along the way for the 40 years of wandering who would not let the Children of Israel drink from their wells.
