The LA zoo was established in Griffith Park in 1912. It was a place of fun and life. No one knows what drove the animals and visitors from the park (Ok people do know exactly what happened to the zoo, but this is funner). We only knew that it had once been functioning and that on our post-apocolyptic hike it now was abandoned. The enclosures had been redecorated, a reminder that the animals had been replaced with an unknown danger.
Try as we might we could not find the animals or clues to where they might have gone. The animals could have been lurking nearby (this is a slightly less terrifying prospect since I have it on good authority that at least one of the animal enclosures held goats).
Their dilapidated enclosures and cages were an eerie reminder of long gone civilization after climbing through empty wilderness.
What force drove them from their pens is hard to imagine since they were hard enough for us to escape from.
But like always a good cave is hard to resist and a nice enclosure is easily recycled for someone else to use as a safe place for a little lunch.
As we left we contemplated the mystery of the abandoned zoo, motivated by one last mysterious message.

I think the mysterious message was saying that you forgot to take me!
